This privacy policy explains how Splitterm (operated by Timon Röcker) (“we”, “us”) collects and processes personal data when you use our website and services. We process personal data in accordance with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP, revised version in force since 1 September 2023) and, where it applies to you, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

• Account data you provide when registering, such as your name and email address, and an encrypted (hashed) password.
• Usage data generated while you use the service.
• Log data automatically collected by our servers, such as IP address, browser type, and date and time of access.
• Cookies and similar technologies (see below).

Providing your account data (name, email address and password) is necessary to create an account and use account-based features. If you do not provide it, we cannot create your account. Any other data is optional and not required to browse the website.

4. Legal basis (for users in the EU/EEA)

Where the GDPR applies, we process personal data on the basis of the performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)), your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), our legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) and, where relevant, compliance with a legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)). Where we rely on our legitimate interests, those interests are operating, securing and improving the service and preventing abuse and fraud, balanced against your rights and freedoms.

We use cookies that are strictly necessary to operate the website. Where we use analytics or other non-essential cookies, we do so only with your consent (where legally required), and you can withdraw that consent at any time.

We may share personal data with service providers who process it on our behalf, such as hosting, email delivery and analytics providers. These providers act only on our instructions and under appropriate data processing agreements. We do not sell your personal data.

Some of our service providers (for example hosting, email delivery and analytics) may process personal data outside Switzerland, in particular in the EU/EEA and the United States. Where we disclose personal data to a country that does not offer an adequate level of data protection as recognised by the Swiss Federal Council, we rely on appropriate safeguards, in particular the EU standard contractual clauses in the form recognised for use under Swiss law. Subject to applicable law, you have the right to obtain information about the personal data we hold about you, to request its correction or deletion, and, where the legal requirements are met, to receive personal data you have provided to us in a common electronic format or have it transferred to another controller (data portability). Where the GDPR applies to you, you additionally have the right to object to processing, to restriction of processing, and to withdraw consent at any time.
